After opening the two tips of the tube, air is pumped through the tube using a small rubber bulb. This produces visible white smoke, which is carried by any air currents present. The Dräger-Tubes can be used to take gas measurements in different ranges. The higher the moisture content of the air, the more clearly the sulphuric acid aerosol becomes visible.
